Refugee Week – ‘Freedom from Fear’

Refugee Week 2009 will be held from Sunday 14 June to Saturday 20 June to coincide with World Refugee Day (20 June). This year’s national Refugee Week theme is ‘Freedom from Fear’, a theme which encourages Australians to think about the reasons refugees flee their homelands and the importance of providing safety and the lasting security to people who have lost everything. boatpeople_wideweb__470x4300Organisations around Australia are encouraged to mark Refugee Week by holding suitable events which celebrate the contributions of refugees and which promote awareness of issues of refugee protection.  Over the next three months, we will be building up a national calendar of events on our website and distributing information on activities to media outlets across the country. Please forward information about any events you might be holding to info@refugeecouncil.org.au ASAP. This address is also the place to order copies of the Refugee Week poster, which will be available soon. To keep up to date with plans for Refugee Week as it draws closer, click here.
