Evensong of St Valentine sunday, 10 february 2013

St Valentine, an early Christian martyr, who boldly helped couples celebrate Christian marriages when it was against the law to do so, has become the patron saint of lovers and married couples.

The Cathedral takes this opportunity once a year to invite married couples, and those about to marry, to celebrate the true nature of the love that lies at the heart of marriage. Canon Theresa Harvey will be with us at this service for the last time, as she retires in March of this year.

Married couples from our daughter church, Christ Church Claremont, join us on this occasion also and the Rector, Fr Peter Boyland, is the guest preacher. Children are very welcome.

The service is followed by a champagne (and soft drinks) reception on the Parvis.

The service is sung by Schola Aedis Christi, a choir of young professional musicians from Christ Church Claremont.
